The Challenge

July 2008 didn’t just mark the release of the updated iPhone 3G; it also saw the launch of the iTunes App Store, allowing third party applications to be (officially) run on the revolutionary device for the first time. Combined with the addition of location aware features and 3G support, this was a bandwagon that Cityguide just had to be on.

Our Solution

With a pressing deadline and recently released Apple developer tools to learn, we quickly boiled down a lean version 1.0 that would secure Cityguide a foot in this new market. This “getting real” approach resulted in both a shipped product and time to monitor demand and see how the community grew, before investing in the more advanced features. Music to our agile-development ears!

After reaching the dizzy heights of the Top 10 Swiss apps in the iTunes store, we sat down with Cityguide to formulate the plan for a full-fat version 2.0, which was finished at the end of 2008...
